Gear & Spline Manufacturing · Application
Gear hobbing
Hob cutters generate spur and helical gears for gearboxes, pumps, machinery and vehicles.

- Result
- Accurate gears at production rates, from one hob per module.
Problem
Gears for transmissions, gearboxes and drives must have an accurate tooth form for smooth, quiet running and long life, and must be produced economically in batch and volume.
Solution
Hobbing generates the tooth form continuously as the hob and the gear blank rotate together. One hob cuts all tooth counts of the same module and pressure angle.
- Involute hobs for standard spur and helical gears; non-standard hobs for special profiles.
- Pre-grind (pre-shaving) hobs leave a controlled stock for finishing by grinding.
- Malkar uses the same hobs in its own gear production.
Benefits
Why it works
Productive
Continuous cutting suits batch and volume production.
Accurate tooth form
Precision-ground hob profiles.
Flexible
One hob covers many tooth counts of the same module.
