3D printer Z-axis
Leadscrews raise the print bed or gantry layer by layer with fine, repeatable steps.
- What was needed
- Single Start Leadscrew, Multi Start Leadscrew, Anti-Backlash Lead Nut
- Requirements
- Fine, repeatable layer steps
- No play or wobble
- Holds position when the motor is off
- Industry
- 3D Printing & Robotics
- Result
- Even layers without visible banding from the Z drive.
Problem
The Z-axis must move the bed or gantry in small, exact layer steps and hold it still while printing. Any play or wobble shows up as visible lines on the printed part.
Solution
A trapezoidal leadscrew driven by a stepper motor gives fine resolution per motor step, and an anti-backlash nut removes play between the screw and nut.
- Single-start screws give the finest steps and hold position when the motor is off.
- Multi-start screws move faster for larger printers.
Benefits
Why it works
Fine layer resolution
Small linear travel per motor step.
Repeatable
Anti-backlash nuts remove play.
Holds position
No sagging when the motor is off.
