Self-locking worm drives for lifts and hoists
Worm gear reductions that lift goods lifts, scissor tables and hoists and hold the load when the motor stops.
- What was needed
- Worm & Worm Wheel
- Requirements
- Large reduction for slow lifting
- Holds the load when the motor stops
- Compact drive
- Industry
- Material Handling, Lifts & Gates
- Result
- A compact lifting drive that resists running back.
Problem
Goods lifts, scissor tables, hoists and gate operators raise heavy loads slowly and must not run back when the motor stops.
Solution
A worm and worm wheel gives a large speed reduction in one stage. Low-lead worm sets are self-locking, helping the drive hold the load (a brake is still used where safety rules require it).
Benefits
Why it works
Large reduction in one stage
Compact drive for slow, heavy lifting.
Load holding
Self-locking worm geometry resists back-driving.
