Leadscrew-driven machine axes
Trapezoidal leadscrews and nuts move cross slides, tables and tailstocks on lathes and milling machines.
- What was needed
- Single Start Leadscrew, Flange Lead Nut, Anti-Backlash Lead Nut
- Requirements
- Precise linear movement
- Robust in workshop conditions
- Holds position without a brake
- Industry
- Machine Tools & CNC
- Result
- A simple, rugged axis drive at lower cost than ball screws.
Problem
Cross slides, tables and tailstocks on conventional and light CNC machines need a robust, cost-effective way to convert handwheel or motor rotation into precise linear movement.
Solution
Trapezoidal (ACME) leadscrews with bronze or polymer flange nuts give a simple, rugged drive that holds position without a brake. Anti-backlash nuts reduce play where positioning in both directions matters.
Benefits
Why it works
Simple and rugged
Tolerates dirt and shock better than precision ball screws.
Self-holding
Single-start screws don't back-drive easily.
Cost-effective
Lower cost than ball screw assemblies.
